Here's to the Light
/Life is defined as the presence of energy in its many intricate and brilliantly complex forms. I am just a traveler here, carving out and exploring the many beautiful ways in which to live my life to its fullest.
We are sitting right within the traditional Celtic holiday of Imbolc. Through the many centuries, this festival has morphed into a variety of mid-winter celebrations and, while larger feasts have somewhat obscured it, the Earth recalls this time, as well as our ties to the ancients...winged, four- and two-legged.
Mid-winter marked a time when the growing light was a welcome harbinger for spring. The increase in light in the Northern Hemisphere invited a growing sense of ease that longer, warmer days were on the horizon, and that the harsh winter climate would lift again to bear the blessings of the upcoming season.
Brigid (or Brigit) is honored as the goddess of fire, animals, household arts, and poetry. She blesses humans and animals alike, bringing with her both wisdom and fertility for the land and its inhabitants. I honor this gentle invitation, as this soul begins to stretch her arms toward the growing light and the abundance of simple blessings bestowed upon us each day.
Until next time I offer these words of wisdom for better or for worse. Please take them with a grain of salt for we each live our own individual truths. Our mission while we are here is to understand, accept, and celebrate that one very simple, but incredibly significant fact. For all this, I am grateful.
